This paper focuses on modernization and its possible costs such as destructuration and deculturation, structurelessness and culturelessness. It explains how models of social interaction have changed over the course of human history, from the earliest societies of hunters and gatherers, through the development of traditional structures within agricultural societies, to the modern industrial order. The author concludes urging everyone with a concern for human development to work toward “rehumanizing” political and economic institutions.
