This paper outlines the challenges to Bangladesh’s export-oriented garment industry. The author finds that increasing liberalization of the global textile market and the phasing out of the Multi-Fiber Arrangement, which limits inputs of domestic origin in clothing production, create the opportunity to restructure Bangladesh’s domestic apparel sector.
