This paper discusses the corporate responsibility and the growth of the corporate codes of conduct, which tend to focus on the impact of the transnational corporations in the area of environment and social conditions. The author points out that, notwithstanding the positive benefits these codes of conducts generate for the stakeholders, there are several limitations. It further argues that there is the danger of these codes being seen for more than they really are and suggests that it is important to develop strategies to ensure that codes are complementary to government legislation and provide space for workers to organize.
