This paper investigates the link between UN world summits and the activities of civil society organizations around the globe. Specifically, the paper examines the qualitative and quantitative co-evolution of these agencies with regard to various global issues. It concludes by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of four types of strategy used by social movements and civil society actors: the protest model, the pressure model, the proposal model, and the model of alternative practices.
