This paper presents the proceedings of a conference which examined the role of the private sector in development. In particular, it addresses the question whether organized business interests support or undermine transformative social policy. The report summarizes the presentations, discussions and debates on the three main topics, namely business and public policy, private regulation and partnerships, and collective action.
