This briefing discusses ways to implement renewables-based rural electrification. The authors explain that among the various options for off-grid rural electrification, renewables-based rural electrification holds particular promise due to the double dividends it offers: reduction of poverty and of greenhouse gas emissions. They point out the need for informing decision-makers about renewable energy and least-cost options. They also argue that there is a need to tailor electrification efforts to communities' needs and capacities.
