In light of the shift from fossil fuels to green energy sources, this brief analyzes the various benefits and impacts of the so-called “Energiewende” (energy transformation). The author specifically examines the transformation’s potential impact on 1) the export and import of energy resources and materials; 2) investments, tax revenues and subsidies; and 3) value creation from electrification.
