This working paper discusses the concept of land tenure, and the impact different types of tenure have on economic development. The six forms of tenure examined are owner cultivation, squatting, latifundia, feudal tenure, communal tenure and smallholder leasing. The author contrasts differing views of each form of land tenure and provides a brief historical outline of their development.
