This paper explores whether sustainable livelihood (SL) approaches are effective for poverty reduction. It also explores the extent to which sustainable livelihood approaches can be used for poverty reduction strategy papers. The authors consider which specific policy issues addressed by a typical PRSP process might benefit from an SL framework. They argue that SL-based analysis of the main livelihood groups will be helpful in identifying where and how government can intervene.
