This paper explores the relevance of extension to the poor given the market integration and the dynamic policy environment in Vietnam. It discusses the role of extension in supporting the livelihoods of the poor in Vietnam, and the conclusions that can be drawn for this role. The author discusses the policy environment in 2001, the potential role of extension in supporting the livelihoods of the rural poor in Vietnam, and the conclusions that can be drawn for this role given the changing nature of poverty and poverty alleviation measures.
