This paper documents the nature and scope of social protection policy and practice in Bolivia. It uses the World Bank’s social protection framework, in terms of its implications for the government’s recently completed Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP). The authors review both formal and informal social protection in Bolivia. They also assess the inclusion of social protection in the completed PRSP. The paper concludes with recommendations for the Bolivian government, civil society and the donor community to identify institutional structures and operational procedures to ensure security is successfully implemented.
