This paper explores the impact of social movements on the forest management space in Madhya Pradesh, India. It links the concepts of forests and natural resources within the framework of India's post-colonial, post-independence experience and its path to development. The author traces the historical trajectory, political agenda and achievements of two organizations: Ekta Parishad and Bharat Jan Andolan. The paper concludes with alternative strategies for forest management, highlighting the importance of democratic participation.
