Publication

This paper discusses the impact of globalization on the economic and social development of Tuvalu. It surveys Tuvalu's history of colonialism, position during the Cold War, brush with neo-colonialism, independence and nation-building experience. The author details how Tuvalu is linked to networks of global communication, trade and finance, which inform its policy decisions and development strategy. The author maintains, moreover, that Tuvalu offers lessons for western nations attempting to assist small developing states.
