This briefing aims to inform the debate about data protection for the political parties as they prepare for the European Parliament elections and address the voting public. It first outlines the state of play in EU data protection policy and the next steps that are expected to be taken. The authors then present key shortcomings and issues surrounding this policy domain. The concluding section highlights the main challenges and puts forward key recommendations within a five-year framework.
