This publication presents defense strategies for protecting and advancing US national interests. The 2001 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) offers insights to develop programs and budgets to advance defense strategies and national security, based on analysis and insights from a 15-month working group. The authors' review an array of defense strategies, policies and programs on topics that include US overseas military presence, military technology and militarization and nuclear defense options.
