This paper is concerned with patterns of union formation and sexual onset and the sequencing of these two events among youth in the societies of Asia, viewed against the comparative evidence on these same phenomena elsewhere in the world. It addresses absence of Asian data on sexual behavior and related issues in any of the global compilations of such indicators and discusses issues relating to cross-national comparisons of young adult reproductive health (YARH) data. Then it turns to Asian YARH survey results to highlight important patterns and differences.
