This brief examines Operation Enduring Freedom and the seemingly indefinite 'global war on terror' (GWOT) launched in Afghanistan by the US administration after 9/11. The author analyzes where this war stands in 2009, after it entered its eighth year showing no signs of abatement. She highlights 2009 developments in the war and major issues it raises.
