Publication

Apr 2004

This publication examines African attitudes toward democracy. It estimates support for democracy and rejection of authoritarian rule on the demand side, and satisfaction with democracy and popular estimates of democracy’s extent on the supply side. The authors find that the more recent an electoral alternation (or, failing that, a multiparty transition), the more positive people feel about democracy.
