This brief examines German policy toward Afghanistan and Pakistan, relating it to the new US Af-Pak strategy and to electoral politics in Germany. The author argues that for the paradigm shift in policies toward Afghanistan and Pakistan to materialize, the German electorate needs to accept a more active role for its military in the region.
