This study compares the legislation, regulations and codes of practice governing a range of professional services across EU member states. The authors review reasons behind the regulation of professional services in Europe and discuss the different regulatory frameworks. They focus particularly on case studies of regulated professions including legal services (lawyers and notaries), accountancy services (accountants, auditors and tax advisers), technical services (architects and consulting engineers) as well as pharmacy services (community pharmacists).
