This publication argues for considering social risks, such as gender inequality, domestic violence and social discrimination when dealing with social protection. So far, social protection has mostly meant protection from shocks and chronic poverty of an economic nature, according to the authors. They conceptualize an integrated economic and social understanding of social protection and based on that make policy recommendations.
