This paper argues for considering gender aspects, which have been neglected, in relation to the food price crisis. In particular, there are two problems which have received inadequate attention, according to the authors. First, women are bearing a disproportionate share of the burden of the food price crisis, both as producers and consumers. Second, responses at the international and national levels have not taken sufficient consideration of gender dynamics into crisis responses. The authors argue that it is not too late to put in place gender-sensitive policy measures that will improve the effectiveness of policy responses to the crisis as well as address ongoing food insecurity.
