This article discusses technical livestock interventions aimed at improving the productivity of cattle in Africa. The paper reviews the contemporary situation and the variety of indigenous cattle breeds in Nigeria as a case study. It examines factors that affect breed distribution and how changing livestock species influence this. The author recommends improving breed characterizations and distributional data.
