This book explores the relationship between regional security and the river environment of the Tigris-Euphrates basin. The author mainly focuses on Turkey, because a review of Turkish history, politics and military capability is central to an understanding of the security concerning the 'Guneydogu Anadolu Projesi' (GAP). It looks at the issues that affect regional instability: historical use of water use in the region, in agriculture and in development of hydroelectric power, the security relationship between Turkey and Syria and Iraq, and regional security implications of Turkish policy and proposed actions in completion of the GAP.
