This paper explores political instability in the Pacific Island region, focusing on unrest in Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. It surveys their political history - beginning with decolonization and nation building - details governance structures, and addresses issues of land tenure, migration and economic outlook. The author calls for sensible engagement by the international community to help avert further crises throughout the region.
