This report summarizes the outcomes of a Lowy Institute conference on on the impact of the economic crisis in the Pacific Islands region. It is noted that the Pacific has fallen behind Asian countries in its progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and is not on track to achieve them by 2015. Therefore, the region needs better targeted aid, investment in infrastructure in rural areas and more efforts to support and enable the private sector.
