The report summarizes the outcomes of a project that analyzed the rise and persistence of poverty during Poland's economic transition. It shows that the interaction of several factors trapped individuals into a cycle of poverty. The authors review the problem of poverty and empirically analyze the relationship between social transfers and labor supply. They discuss alcoholism as a factor of social exclusion and explore the impact of children's education on the inter-generational transmission of poverty.
