This paper reviews monetary transmission mechanisms in Central and Eastern European economies and issues relating to monetary policy. It highlights the challenges to economic research due to a lack of reliable data and the volatility of institutional changes in these countries. The authors test for inflation and use empirical analysis of data from 10 transition countries between 1995-2000 to explore the impact of interest and exchange rates.
