This paper reviews outcome mapping (OM) principles to guide donors considering support for projects using OM, and other decision-makers seeking methods to improve the effectiveness of aid policies and practice. It is based on research from case studies of OM application in Ecuador, Kenya, Indonesia, Madagascar, Zimbabwe and the UK. These cases represent applications of OM in varying contexts, for various purposes and to various extents. Practitioner discussions hosted by the Outcome Mapping Learning Community and literature reviews complement the analysis.
