This paper assesses popular opinions on land disputes and the likely consequences for peace and stability in Liberia, based on a 2008 Afrobarometer survey. The authors examine the relative role of land disputes in generating violent conflicts in Liberia and the spatial distribution of these conflicts. They provide an overview of the frequency and location of land disputes and of the public's preferred approaches to resolving land distribution disputes.
