This publication gives an overview of the characteristics of the three existing education systems in Belgium: the Flemish education system, French community education system and the German-speaking community education system. The author analyzes the educational levels of each system and tracks the progress of the differentiated groupings. He then discusses family and community participation, school autonomy and individualized curricula. The paper then assesses the communities' policies toward immigrant students and those with special needs.
