This paper presents the views of the Malawian people on the performance of their governments, and their presidents in particular. It examines issues of economic and social policy based on surveys conducted in 1999, 2003, 2005 and 2008. The author finds that President Bingu wa Mutharika and his government, especially in the most recent 2008 survey, are viewed by Malawians as significantly out-performing their predecessors.
