This publication examines US security interests and policy toward the Korean peninsula with regard to the threats of nuclear proliferation and political instability. It outlines US interest in regional security and presents three alternative strategies for engagement beyond the Six-Party Talks. The author explores structural issues hindering diplomatic progress and the impact on US interests of a protracted diplomatic engagement.
