This paper argues that in order for the US to attain its strategic, economic, information, and military objectives it needs assured access to, and freedom of action within, the global commons. Accordingly, global commons access must remain at the forefront of US national security imperatives. Successful application of military power in and through the global commons in support of overarching US national objectives is likewise dependent upon the ability of military forces to access and maneuver within and across the commons.
