This paper looks at restrictions of passage, accidents and oil transportation norms as causes of interruption in oil supplies. The key 'chokepoints' discussed in detail are the Straits of Hormuz, Malacca, Turkey and Bab el-Mandeb, and the Panama and Suez Canals.
