After the central organising role social media has played in many of the recent protests across the Middle East and North Africa, critics of social media have been noticeably quieter. The point is not just that some people have underestimated the change that is afoot as a result of a networked world, it is also that predicting how these tools will be used is incredibly difficult. For public diplomacy practitioners it served as a reminder: the world has undergone some rapid and dramatic changes that require them to adapt quickly.
