Risk analyses serve to systematically identify future opportunities and risks in order to make them calculable and manageable. Catastrophes such as the Fukushima disaster, however, question the limits of this approach. Considering the difficulties regarding integration of the probability aspect, risk compilation and its explanatory power, the author advises a more differentiated approach to risk analysis methodology.
