In response to a debate in the US Congress, this paper argues that the fears of India's lax compliance with the non-proliferation regime are unfounded. India has reiterated its commitment to global disarmament and displayed responsibility on nuclear weapons related issues argues the author. There is, therefore, no reason to deny civilian nuclear commerce and global partnerships to the world's largest democracy.
