This article looks at the outcome of the the 2008 Malaysian elections. Barisan Nasional (National Front), a coalition of race-based parties, remained in power but lost the two-thirds majority it held in the federal government for 34 years. The author ascribes this upset to the disillusion of minorities, in particular Indians, upset by the continued practice of affirmative action in favor of ethnic Malays.
