This article discusses how registers of nuclear weapons could be used to further nuclear transparency. The authors conclude that a nuclear weapons register is an idea whose time has come. Such a register, they argue would: enhance international security; corroborate the principles of transparency and accountability of the nuclear weapon states vis-à-vis the global community; and would be a stepping stone towards, and eventually an indispensable precondition for, nuclear disarmament.
