This article analyzes the interaction between customary legal systems and the formal legal system of Peru. The author discusses three themes: the organizational and judicial autonomy of indigenous peoples, land rights and nature conservation. She also analyzes Peru's national legislation and its impact on the daily life and organization of indigenous people living at Peruvian-Colombian border.
