This paper examines the extent to which Sustainable Livelihoods (SL) analysis helps in understanding the complex power relations influencing the access to assets and entitlements by the poor. To do this, the authors draw on broad experience in community based natural resource (NR) management in India, and specifically on a field study of Kondkitunda village in tribal Orissa.
