This brief looks at the Pentagon’s new strategic guidance and fiscal year (FY) 2013 budget request which, it says, signal the end of the post-9/11 era for the US military. Together, the guidance and budget aim to shift the US military’s focus from a decade spent fighting two ground wars to a new era in which the US hopes to spend more time preventing and deterring conflicts than fighting them.
