Secure land rights contribute to the sustainable livelihoods of individuals, families and communities; a sense of personal security; the avoidance or mitigation of social conflicts; investment confidence; and sustainable development. This paper presents and analyzes some examples of legal empowerment initiatives to secure the land rights of the rural poor.
