This paper argues that international human rights law is of critical importance to the design and implementation climate finance frameworks. Rights-based frameworks and approaches do not only ensure that responses to climate change will conform to existing human rights obligations and principles; they also have the potential to strengthen the effectiveness and long-term success of these measures.
