This guidebook details the legal principles, processes and institutions relevant to the resolution of land, inheritance and guardianship disputes in post-tsunami Aceh. It has been designed to promote awareness and understanding regarding the applicable law, how to access the legal system, and the rights of women and children in the judicial process. The guidebook focuses on the laws applicable to Muslims because the population in Aceh is predominately Muslim. Moreover, the sections of this guidebook dealing with adat (non-codified) law and customary practices are based upon research conducted in District of Aceh Besar and the Municipality of Banda Aceh.
