This book discusses the role of technology and the human element in warfare. Based on the analysis of various armies, he suggests that even in view of modern technology and the destructiveness of contemporary weapons, the human element will remain pronounced in tactical situations. Cohesion - understood as mutual beliefs and needs that cause people to act as a collective whole - will remain to be a particularly important factor in warfare. He argues that individuality must be submitted to action for the common good.
