This book deals with major issues, events, and personalities that have influenced India-US relations from 1941 until 1991. The author claims that in order to remove the obstacles for deeper cooperation between the two democracies, one has to understand the evolution of bilateral attitude and behavior, which include episodes of strong US support for India and later India's non-alignment and close ties with the Soviet Union until the end of the Cold War. It is argued that the US and India were not at odds because of too little dialogue, but due to disagreements on national security.
