This volume provides a historical review of the US' dominant Cold War strategy, the strategy of containment (NSC-68). This strategy was formulated by one of the authors of this book, Paul Nitze, Director of the Policy Planning Staff at the Department of State. The volume also includes remarks on the need for a new post-Cold War grand strategy and how such a strategy should look like.
