Against the background of projections which predict that the current gap in capabilities between the US and European NATO members is likely to widen, this book sets out a multifaceted strategy to tackle the problem. The authors warn against letting the divergence in NATO capabilities between Europe and the US continue, arguing that the US would become motivated, indeed required, to act unilaterally in its own self-interest, weakening European influence in the international community.
